Don't Give Up, a Quick, Hearty Dinner, and the Prize Potties

If you're seven months or more in to being a mommy you've probably already experienced the trend of ever-changing baby. What baby wants one day, might be discarded the next. Uh huh. That goes for just about everything too, but I'm going to focus on food for right now.

Rather than trying to fight baby's desires only to make everyone end up in tears, I suggest just holding off... but not forgetting. Especially if it's a certain kind of food you'd like your child to eat, say like vegetables. What they may reject one day, they might not down the line. So don't give up or convince yourself that your little one has an adverse distaste for anything. A good example I have is with my daughter and her first food, which was avocado. She absolutely loved it until one day she happened to get sick after eating one. Fast forward through a seven month hiatus of the fruit, and a handful of spaced out attempts to give her some, and she's finally given avocados another try. More specifically, she is devouring up an entire half at each and every lunch time, and getting in good self-feeding spoon practice too. So, don't give up or even believe that it is so if your child won't eat something that you think (s)he should, because its likely nothing more than a passing un-fancy.

Recipe:

Beans, Rice, and Cheese

When you get home late from a long afternoon outing and realize there is no dinner for the wee one(s), try throwing these three simple ingredients together for a quick, tasty, and filling meal.

Ingredients

pinto, red, or black beans
brown rice (cooked to directions)
Monterey Jack or Cheddar cheese

1) Put desired ratio of beans to rice in a microwavable bowl. Top with thin slices of cheese. Put in microwave just long enough to melt cheese, and stir to blend. Serve when cool.

Baby Bjorn Potties www.babybjorn.com/us/products/bathroom/

I have yet to hear of a potty not made of plastic, but if you know of one please pass it along. When you decide to embark on potty training, maybe somewhere around 18 months if you don't try infant potty training, check out the products offered by Baby Bjorn. They are sturdy items that will last and make your toddler feel safe while he or she is learning to go the bathroom like mommy and daddy. Their toilet trainer is especially nice, as it fits securely onto most (if not all) toilets, eliminating the chance of slipping.
