Ensuring that your child has enough liquids to drink is just as important as ensuring that he or she have enough food, especially during these long days of summer. Here are some helpful hydration hints to live by:
1) Always carry water with you when you go out. Make it a diaper bag or purse essential.
2) Choose water over fruit juices, and avoid sodas altogether since they offer no nutritional value.
3) Children under 6 should not have more than a ½ to ¾ a cup of juice a day.
4) Offer plenty of water while eating, which also aids in swallowing food.
5) Along with milk in the morning, offer water too. Like most adults many children are very thirsty when they first wake up due to sweating during the night.

Austrian Jam Cookies
Mmm, there's nothing like a little treat with a bonus special treat in the middle. When the kids are deserving, bake these gems up. They'll love you for it.
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup raspberry jam (or I suggest any flavor of Bonne Maman)
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheets. In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add vanilla extract and egg yolk, mixing until fluffy. Stir in flour and chopped almonds.
2) Measure out dough by the teaspoonful and roll into balls. Make an indentation in each cookie with your thumb, then fill with jam using a teaspoon or pastry bag.
3) Bake 15 to 20 minutes, until golden brown. Remove cookies from baking sheets to cool.

Kids Music CD - Songs in French for Children
Since my last blog talked about having fun with kids and music I thought this product suggestion would be timely. We've had this CD for almost a year now, and our daughter loves almost all of the 20 songs on it. They are upbeat songs that children can sing and dance along with, while learning some French. I am nearly finished with putting all the words in a document, so if anyone needs them, just ask.
